Storyline:
Unable to afford the tuition needed to fund her private school education, Rayanna or Raya (Rutina Wesley) returns to her family home in the city while reluctantly re-evaluating her future. Upon learning that the top prize for an upcoming step-dancing competition is $50,000, Raya uses her impressive moves to earn a coveted slot in her good friend Bishop's (Dwain Murphy) predominantly male JSJ crew. Isolated from the local females due to jealousy and separated from her fellow dancers by gender, the ambitious dancer is subsequently kicked-off the team for showing off during a preliminary competition. Now, if Raya has any hope of realizing her medical school dreams, she will have to either earn back Bishop's trust or organize her own dance crew and start over from scratch. In the end, she eventually learns "how she move".

One of those 'feel good' type movies, appealing to a broad age group with broad interests - i.e. hip-hop, dance, education of the next generation, ridding our streets of drugs, etc. The story line was there, but really could and should have been developed more - deeper, more meaningful. The actors were decent, with Rutina Wesley as the lead actress very memorable. I hope to see her in future leading roles, only I hope her characters have far more depth on screen.

This movie was okay but wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. I suppose I'm a little old to appreciate this particular movie since I'm more of a baby boomer rather than a gen-x-er. It was just okay and I'm sure it can inspire someone, just not me. CFG

Not a memorable dance movie

Forget Stomp the Yard! This movie is gonna make you get up and dance, stomp your heart out, and learn some moves! I loved it when I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival '07. You will too!
